Watched on date night with the husband in a real movie theatre. Yeah! I was frightened of the almost three hour-run but thankfully, the story was plot-driven and humorous. Time flew. Leonardo DiCaprio was fantastic, as were most of the actors. I wasn’t a big fan of the domestic terrorism plot (reminiscent of the Rote Armee Fraktion in Germany, does such a violent leftist movement even exist in the USA?), nor of the highly sexualized and violent story around the young Black woman terrorist in the film.
Also too many car chases and violent scenes for my taste but that’s hard to avoid in movies these days. The father-daughter relationship was beautifully done.
I haven’t read a professional review yet but will do now.
We went to the movies because my husband had seen all the five star reviews!

One Battle After Another feels chaotic in a deliberate way. It’s messy, intense, sometimes funny, sometimes frustrating—but never boring. Leonardo DiCaprio carries the film with a strange, worn-out energy that fits a man dragged back into a fight he thought he was done with. Paul Thomas Anderson swings big here: politically charged, emotionally raw, and visually bold, even when the pacing stumbles. It doesn’t always hold itself together, but that’s kind of the point. This is a film about unfinished battles—external and internal—and it commits to that idea fully. Not for everyone, but if you like ambition over polish, it hits.

Great film. Bob was a hilarious and interesting character who bumbled through the story while things happened around him. Great characters that verged on cartoony but were well fleshed out and had deep motivation. Lots of fun, made me laugh, and I had a great time.

What makes PTA, Tarantino, or the Coen Brothers so good at their craft is they are able to take 'absurdist' or 'uncomfortable' stories and execute them in a fashion that will invoke a multitude of emotions.

The writing in this film is phenomenal - and it's so layered that folks will laugh, cry or feel cringe at different moments based on your connections.

If I had to oversimplify a comparison - this is like the Big Liebowski meets Taken. The dude lives in Bob.

I wish there was more Sensei.

I want to watch this film again purely because I feel like there's more to laugh at it.

Everyone go watch this.

This is great. It's fantastic to finally see DiCaprio with PTA after their near miss on BOOGIE NIGHTS. To me, this is not the best PTA, like some folks are saying, nor is it the Second Coming; however, it's excellent. PTA's mastery of craft is on display, he re-invented the Car Chase as we know it, and he caught lightning by completing a story that took him 20 years write as it reaches its greatest relevance (everything going on in 2025).

There is something to be noted... about how some of the black women are portrayed (if they're stereotypes), and if how they're portrayed is meant to be a commentary on how black women are portrayed.... or if PTA just fell into the same lazy stereotype usage that "lesser" creators also have. Does it make sense to give the benefit of the doubt every single time?

Benicio del Toro doing some of his best work here and in THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME. Gotta love him.
