Live review - Mission Impossible 2: Nu-Metal the Movie

I will be watching and providing my thoughts on Mission Impossible 2. Easily most people's least favourite film in the series, although I personally think 3 is the worst. However I'm interested to give this a spin for all the Limp Bizkit, Oakley sunglasses, John Wu hot off the serious critical and commercial success of FaceOff (something I've never understood) comedically self serious Cruise and full tilt year 2000 energy. My mission, should I choose to make it all the way to the end of the movie is to stay engaged for the film's dead zones of quality. This discussion will self destruct after my 3rd vodka soda.

Ethan and the Bad Guy's convo mid gunfight is a nice way to put pause on it all. It also gives Ethan room to exhibit more character than just his actions.

Wu gunfights are so visceral, they don't have the stylism of the Wachowski's it's all about moment and reaction and pause. They are not free flowing, they exist in the shot and the edit.

Ethan trying to get the thing out of the tank, the lighting, the shots, the virus gun? This is good stuff. This has a color gradient and quality that I'm onboard with and although people easily criticized it for the green ala Matrix, now decades removed it is unique in its own way thanks to Wu.

Good lab tech stuff. Very spooky with lots of good reflections and even screen effects for Chimera that kinda look like the Entity.

This gunfight environment is very Wu and very millennium. Dull blue and green neon. Intercut with Luther's screen. and a bunch of bad guys come in through the Lobby? </br></br>Joel Silver "They think they can do a lobby scene? Fuck them!"

New building infiltration. Love the 3d model and the briefing. Guess what it's super fucking hard to get in there. I like that the bad guy knows his methods, but it begs the question: Don't all these bad guys know his methods? They come up with these impossible things to just like bait him?
