The Secrets of the Godzilla Universe: Understanding the Relationship between Godzilla and Kong!
General Reviews"Godzilla vs. Kong 2: Empire Rising" has finally premiered!
As the fifth film in the MonsterVerse, let's talk today about the past and present of Godzilla and Kong, why they ended up fighting, and what you need to know before watching the film!

The first film in the MonsterVerse, "Godzilla," was released in 2014.

Godzilla is a gigantic prehistoric sea monster that walks upright on two legs. During the mass extinction event, Godzilla hid in the ocean, surviving by absorbing radiation from the Earth's core.
With the frequent nuclear tests in the last century, the radiation concentration on the surface increased, leading Godzilla to re-emerge, giving humanity its first glimpse of such a colossal prehistoric beast!

In 1946, Truman established a secret organization called Monarch, whose main goal was the extermination of large unknown creatures, including Godzilla.
However, Godzilla had no interest in humans and silently returned to the depths of the Pacific Ocean!
Until 2014, when Godzilla's arch-enemy, the insectoid monster MUTO, awakened, Godzilla once again appeared before humans!
It turns out that 15 years earlier, Monarch had discovered two petrified MUTO eggs within the skeleton of a Godzilla relative in a mining site in the Philippines. One was dormant, while the other hatched and escaped into the Pacific Ocean!

The dormant egg was transported to the United States, and the hatched MUTO made its way to a nuclear power plant in Japan. There, it turned into a cocoon, continuously absorbing nuclear energy!

After 15 years, the cocooned MUTO had consumed all the reactor's energy and emerged with the ability to fly!
Using echolocation, it located the other dormant egg to the east!

The hatched creature was actually a male MUTO, and the petrified egg contained a female MUTO.
The male MUTO's journey to find the female was for the purpose of breeding more MUTOs.

Godzilla, the guardian of Earth's ecology, sees anyone who disrupts Earth's ecological balance as an enemy!
The emergence of the MUTOs undeniably disrupted the Earth's ecology, leading to a clash between Godzilla and the male MUTO in Hawaii. The male MUTO was no match for Godzilla and fled eastward, with Godzilla in pursuit!

On the other side, the female MUTO emerged, crushing Las Vegas and heading towards San Francisco on the west coast!
Finally, the female MUTO met her mate in San Francisco's Chinatown!

However, Godzilla soon arrived and easily killed the male MUTO.

Although a collapsing building knocked Godzilla unconscious, the vengeful female MUTO arrived, but Godzilla once again stood up, effortlessly snapped her jaw open, and ended her with a blast of atomic breath!

Thus, the MUTO couple crisis was resolved, and Godzilla proved itself as a symbol of justice to humanity!
In 2017, the second film in the MonsterVerse, "Kong: Skull Island," was released.

In 1973, humanity accidentally discovered a mysterious island in the South Pacific: Skull Island!
This isolated island harbored a completely different ecosystem.
Dominating the island was a giant gorilla, Kong, standing 30 meters tall. Besides Kong, Skull Island was home to other massive creatures, with the Skullcrawlers being the most dangerous, even killing Kong's parents!
The island also harbored a group of non-verbal indigenous people, who worshipped Kong as the island's guardian deity!

Kong's presence maintained the island's food chain balance, protecting Skull Island from other large carnivores!
However, the arrival of a human expedition team disturbed the peace of Skull Island.
The bombs they dropped on the ground brought numerous Skullcrawlers to the surface, instantly destabilizing the island's ecosystem!

An enraged Kong swatted the expedition's helicopters out of the sky, leaving the team in disarray.

Within the expedition, there were differing opinions.
The expedition's commander, Nick Fury, gathered the remaining soldiers with the intention of killing Kong, while Loki and Carol aimed to leave the island as soon as possible.

Loki and Carol stumbled upon the indigenous tribe's village, where they learned that Kong's existence was crucial for maintaining the balance of Skull Island's food chain!

Together, the group modified a boat and headed towards the rendezvous point along the river. Along the way, Loki and Carol's group joined forces with Nick Fury's team.
Nick Fury convinced everyone to first head to the crash site to rescue survivors, but his real intention was to use the rescue mission as a pretext to retrieve explosives from the crashed helicopter and set a trap for Kong!
However, the so-called rescue mission failed, costing the lives of several soldiers. Loki and Carol finally saw through Nick Fury's true intentions and parted ways with him.

At night, Loki and Carol stood on a cliff, watching Kong from afar. Just then, Nick Fury detonated the explosives, prompting Kong to rush towards the blast site.
Loki and Carol decided to follow Kong to stop Nick Fury's revenge plan!
Kong fell into Fury's trap and was injured by the fire. As Fury was about to detonate the explosives, Loki and Carol arrived just in time to intervene.

However, the largest Skullcrawler, attracted by the explosion, emerged from a lake, forcing everyone to run towards the boat. Stubborn Fury was about to press the detonator when Kong crushed him with a punch!

As dawn broke, Loki, Carol, and the others continued their escape towards the boat.
The giant Skullcrawler appeared again, but Kong arrived in time to pull out its tongue and innards!
Eventually, Loki, Carol, and the others managed to escape Skull Island but kept silent about everything that had happened there. They didn't want anyone else to disturb the island's ecosystem.

In 2019, the third film in the MonsterVerse, "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," was released.

Five years after the monster attack in San Francisco, the Monarch organization, dedicated to exploring and managing ancient titans like Godzilla, was studying Godzilla and other potential creatures in an underwater base several miles below the surface.

As mysterious titans that had been sleeping underground and in glaciers for thousands of years awakened, Godzilla, the guardian of natural balance, was also awakened!
The first battle was between Godzilla and Ghidorah in Antarctica.

Ghidorah, Monarch's designation Monster Zero, had three heads, two tails, a pair of giant bat wings on its back, and was covered in golden scales, resembling dragons from Western mythology.

It could emit gravity beams from its mouths that looked like lightning.
The second battle was between Rodan and Ghidorah in Mexico.

Rodan, Monarch designation Monster 56, a prehistoric pteranodon from the era of dinosaurs, was resurrected in modern times due to nuclear tests and volcanic gases.

And the final battle was a chaotic four-way fight between Mothra vs. Rodan, and Godzilla vs. Ghidorah!

Mothra, Monarch designation Monster 61, a giant moth creature, could spread its wings over 100 meters. Unlike the MUTO from the first Godzilla movie, Mothra was a guardian of peace on Earth and could communicate telepathically with a little girl!
The final battle ended with Godzilla entering a burning state, easily defeating Ghidorah with multiple thermonuclear explosions, burning Ghidorah until it could no longer regenerate, leading to its complete destruction. Godzilla, now recognized as the King of the Monsters, led the ancient titans back to their natural habitats.

Following this, Monarch released several confidential files about the ancient titans, including a mural showing a battle between Godzilla and Kong, who guarded Skull Island in ancient times.

In 2021, the fourth film in the MonsterVerse, "Godzilla vs. Kong," was released.

After Godzilla defeated Ghidorah in "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," one of Ghidorah's heads was taken by APEX Corporation for secret research.
Godzilla reappeared, attacking an APEX facility. The company, feeling threatened by Godzilla's existence, collaborated with Monarch to venture into the Hollow Earth to harness its energy to combat Godzilla. The guide to the Hollow Earth's entrance in Antarctica would be none other than Kong!

Half a century had passed since the events on Skull Island. Monarch discovered three entrances to the Hollow Earth, located in Antarctica, the Mariana Trench, and Skull Island. Initially, they attempted to explore the Hollow Earth through Skull Island's entrance, only to have giant bats emerge, battling Kong and ultimately devastating Skull Island's ecosystem.
To protect Kong, Monarch placed a dome over Skull Island, effectively containing him.

The first battle between Godzilla and Kong occurred as Kong was being transported to the Hollow Earth entrance in Antarctica.
Upon meeting, the two titans were immediately hostile, partly because Kong had seen ancient cave paintings of his ancestors fighting Godzilla, imprinting the image of Godzilla as an ancestral foe.

The cave paintings depicted the very same Godzilla we know today. Upon encountering the descendant of his ancient adversary, Godzilla felt compelled to test Kong's mettle.

Unsurprisingly, Kong was no match for Godzilla and was decisively defeated.

Their second battle took place in Hong Kong.

After being airlifted to Antarctica, Kong successfully entered the Hollow Earth and acquired a charged battle axe as his weapon. Meanwhile, Godzilla targeted APEX's headquarters in Hong Kong.
Godzilla's atomic breath drilled straight through to the Hollow Earth, allowing Kong, wielding his battle axe, to return to the surface for another confrontation.

Armed with his new weapon, Kong managed to catch Godzilla off guard, shoving the axe into Godzilla's mouth in a nod to their 1962 encounter, humorously referred to as one of Godzilla's most embarrassing moments: being force-fed a tree.

Despite gaining a brief advantage with the axe, Kong was ultimately unable to defeat Godzilla, the true King of the Monsters. Godzilla triumphantly stood over a subdued Kong, declaring victory by pinning Kong beneath his foot.

However, the real challenge for Godzilla and Kong was not each other but the technological marvel created by APEX Corporation: Mechagodzilla.

Utilizing the DNA from one of Ghidorah's heads, which Godzilla had defeated in "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," APEX developed Mechagodzilla, powered by energy harnessed from the Hollow Earth. Initially intended to be controlled by humans, Mechagodzilla was instead overtaken by Ghidorah's consciousness, leading to its rampage.

A fully powered Godzilla might have stood a chance against Mechagodzilla, but weakened from his battle with Kong, victory seemed out of reach. The only solution was for Godzilla and Kong to join forces.

Acting quickly, Godzilla used a blast of atomic breath to power Kong's axe, and together, they managed to defeat Mechagodzilla in a combined effort.

With the Mechagodzilla threat neutralized, Godzilla returned to the sea, and Kong retreated to the Hollow Earth to live.
In 2024, the fifth installment of the MonsterVerse, "Godzilla vs. Kong 2: Empire Rising," premiered.

Featuring Godzilla with pink back fins and Kong equipped with a massive mechanical fist, this time they would unite to face an even more formidable enemy!

So, what do you think of "Godzilla vs. Kong 2: Empire Rising" after catching it on its first release?
