Kingdom (2019)★ 8.2/10

I binge-watched the entire season, and it was so satisfying! The climax kept coming, and there wasn't a dull moment. Each episode provided answers to questions left unanswered in the previous season. The storytelling was well-executed, keeping me hooked with the clean and tight pacing. The cinematography and choreography not only maintained the excellence of the previous season but the were taken to a whole new level. Additionally, there were cleverly placed flashbacks and unexpected appearances of minor characters from the previous season, which deserves a mention.

Season 2 was really disappointing. The high-concept and intense thriller elements from the first season were gone entirely. The first episode dragged on for fifty minutes without any dramatic events, changes in character relationships, or conflicts; it was just a series of chase scenes. There were only two significant events in the first five episodes. It wasn't until the sixth episode that some impactful events occurred, with the male lead making a major decision. However, if you stick around until the sixth episode, you'll find this decision incredibly unbelievable. In my opinion, only the audiovisual aspects of this season hit the mark.

The second season was absolutely incredible! The storytelling and pacing were much better than in the first season. It's intense and thrilling, with no dull moments. The zombie outbreak in the palace during episodes five and six was chaotic and truly mind-blowing. Surprisingly, the ambitious figures in power, rather than the nobody, destroyed the kingdom. The portrayal of the combination of plague and political intrigue was also very well done this season. And, of course, it leaves a bigger question to be answered in the next season.

It has excellent pacing without any unnecessarily draggy scenes. The cinematography and atmosphere are all skillfully crafted. I thoroughly enjoyed the opening sequence, and each episode concludes satisfactorily. Palace intrigue, the darkness of human nature, and the battle against zombies—they are all well depicted. Also, I finally understand the charm of Jihoon Ju, haha. I'm eagerly anticipating the second season!

Overall, the film has good production quality, but unfortunately, the plot is rather ordinary and lacks innovation, and the character development feels uninspiring. It's a waste of talent for Doona Bae to play such a dull role. This series is slightly better than typical Korean dramas, but that doesn't mean it's good.

A segunda temporada é absolutamente incrível!
