Anthony_GloverJuly 22, 2024This movie isn't really a horror movie in the usual way; it's more like a fresh and original take on queer stories. The music is fantastic, and the mood is just right. They use cult stuff perfectly; it fits in so well. And the characters are so real. They're struggling with reality, but they're also obsessed with this virtual world. It's like they're showing us what's going on inside the heads of queer people, and it's spot on.

Miles_MathewsJuly 22, 2024This movie is like a love letter to the queer community, and it's all about the 90s. It's got mysterious characters, a suspenseful story, cool lighting, and indie music that's all its own. It shows how confusing and sad it can be to be a queer kid. But what's really cool is that the director doesn't just stop at the teen years; they take us all the way to the protagonist's adulthood and middle age. They do this by changing how the story is told, which lets us see how the character's mind changes over time.

Bert_RodgersJuly 22, 2024I thought I was gonna watch a horror movie for teens, like "Stranger Things," but instead, I left feeling really emotional, even crying. The way the film shows loneliness and hidden pain is compelling. It has these clever metaphors about being queer and hoping for change as you grow up, and it's really well done. And it's cool to see that the director, Jane Schoenbrun, put her style and beliefs into the movie.

Cathy_ConnorJuly 22, 2024The music in this movie is amazing. The story makes you feel as if someone is gonna come and save you, but at the same time, you feel empty inside. I'm not really into how it shows teenagers feeling disconnected from reality; it's a little too dreamy for me. And the actors could have done a better job. But the music is so beautiful, I can't forget it. And I loved the fantasy scene in the middle of the movie and where they performed at the bar.

Blake_EdwardsMay 22, 2024Overall, the movie has some solid visual effects and really nails the feeling of loneliness and sadness. It's definitely not a typical mainstream flick, so I think people will probably have mixed opinions about it. Film genre might be getting more niche and segmented these days, but I gotta give credit to A24 for taking bold and experimental risks in their films.

George_ShieldsMay 22, 2024It’s insightful. This movie really captures the lives of people (Mr. Melancholy) struggling with depression in a unique audiovisual way. Their life experiences are all twisted and confusing, making their lives blurry and repetitive. They cling to a few emotional anchors to keep going. It was almost a relief when the theater lights came on.
