Birds of Prey (2020)★ 6.4/10

Directed by Clint Eastwood, this biopic of legendary jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker delves into the darker side of the artist’s soul. The film clearly reflects Eastwood’s passion for jazz, and Forest Whitaker delivers a powerful performance. Although the film has garnered many awards and has a rich jazz soundtrack, its nearly three-hour runtime makes it hard to for audiences to stay engaged.

Eastwood’s love for jazz is well-known, and "Bird" is a heartfelt tribute to Charlie Parker, capturing both the brilliance and the darkness that often accompany geniuses. The music is exquisite, and Forest Whitaker’s performance is outstanding, but the film is marred by its excessive length, a recurring issue in Eastwood’s work from this period.

The idea of having Harley Quinn and a group of women “saving the world” is awesome, but I didn’t like the way the story unfolds. The highlight is the cast, they were great.

Margot Robbie gives one of the craziest and funniest performances of the superhero genre with her interpretation of Harley Quinn, a character as insane as it is explosive.

This film allows us to take a closer look at Harley Quinn’s twisted but funny mind, a heroine who must chart her own destiny now that she is free from the Joker’s influence.
