It was my first Stanley Kubrick film; it was (probably) my second Stephen King adaptation (after 'Salem's Lot'), and I am still wondering about how to talk about it. 'The Shining' is a film of atmosphere, dreams, frustration and isolation...so why do we keep coming back to it? Jack Nicholson is one reason, giving one of the all-time great unhinged performances ever filmed. And then there is Shelley Duvall, unfairly maligned by the critics, and apparently Kubrick, who does her best with the script's clear indifference to her fate. With Danny Lloyd as the gateway to the Shine and Halloran as his guide, this is a mixed bag of incredible filmmaking that needed a bit of tweaking to make it perfect.

Truly terrifying, Jack's character brilliantly conveyed all the psychological turmoil he suffered.

Everyone goes crazy when they are around him.
Oh, also the characters when they enter the hotel.

This is a capable horror film to say the least, but I personally do not feel that it's particularly compelling. Overall, it felt lengthy and dull. The predictability of the plot was evident, but certain parts of the film, like the mysterious flood, the axe behind the door, and the frenzied performance are indeed memorable.

This film is a classic depiction of anxiety in modern society, encapsulated in the phrase "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." Jack, a good man overwhelmed by his responsibilities, becomes obsessed with proving himself through his writing, which eventually drives him mad. His inability to acknowledge his limitations leads him to blame his family, seeing them as burdens. With the opportunities to become what the society deems as worthy and successfull, anxiety and self-identity issues can sometimes lurks around the corner as well.

A masterpiece of a horror movie, directed by a masterful director. No other comment is needed.

A masterpiece

Reclusion is one of the favorite habits of a writer, since they can concentrate and take advantage of silence. Unfortunately, a hunted hotel is not the best place to confine oneself.

A classic of the movie world

With a top-level production design, “The Shining” manages to create an atmosphere of anxiety and tension. A demonstration of the effects of isolation when accompanied by the supernatural.

One of the best horror movies ever made

This movie is a gem not only for Stanley Kubrick's filmography, but also for the history of cinema. Filled with terror, metaphors and symbolism, "The Shining" is one of the best horror movies ever made.

Aunque el género no me encante, me gustó bastante. La eleccion de actores y de locaciones es increíble.
