Binge watching 2026
RecommendationsAlthough I'm obsessed with documentary series or fictional crime dramas, science fiction, and the occasional crime comedy, these shows make me want to binge-watch and stay glued to the screen for hours.
My Brilliant Friend - HBO Max (2018-2024). Even though I'm reading the second book of the tetralogy, I watch Max in Portuguese with subtitles because it's not available in Italian (the original), and I want to know every reaction, every tension and suffering Lila and Lenù experience in 1950s Naples (hyperlink). This series is probably the best of the decade. The implicit feminism, the class struggle, and other social themes provide the context for the complex story of two friends, which begins in childhood and continues into old age.
Only Murders in the Building - Disney: Between seasons, you're eager to find out who will be murdered next. The simple yet intelligent humor of veterans Steve Martin and Martin Short, the feeling of the building as home, the charm of the supporting characters. The presence of Meryl Streep.
Pluribus-Apple: Just like in OMITB, there are episodes where nothing seems to happen, but they are very enjoyable, simply by watching Manousos travel across America (the continent), or Carol "steal" a work of art from the O'Keeffe Museum, which is, of course, one of the few well-known places in New Mexico, the state where Vance's series always take place... Intelligent, philosophical. A great science fiction series. Against all fascism and the idea of order, and as Manousos says, against having our souls stolen.

I can't wait for the second season to arrive and see how these two stubborn but principled characters deal with each other as allies, understanding that they are the least conciliatory people and, therefore, have little capacity to save the world as a team.
CSI: Las Vegas – TNT series (2000): I keep rewatching the first seasons, in which Grissom, the entomologist, solves crimes, interpreting the scenes and the victims' bodies like a scientist. Unlike similar series, or the other CSI shows (Miami, NY), in this one, the chief doesn't come across as infallible and dangerous. The first two episodes of CSI are almost perfect; they introduce us to the team, and we know that they are all fallible, sensitive, and erratic.

Grissom's replacements, who were less scientific, diminished the series' appeal, and the recent remake, in which he and Catherine return, has different writers who clearly give it a completely different approach from the original.
90 Day Fiancé – TLC: A "documentary" series that chronicles, in each season, the K-1 visa process for fiancés, who bring their partners from other parts of the world to the United States. Sometimes it's a terrible reality show, it creates drama and feels scripted, but more than an anthropological exercise, I find it very interesting that in this and other series from the same "universe" that have come out in the last decade, there are almost always characters from my country.
And occasionally you can find me rewatching comedies from the '90s and 2000s about groups of friends in New York, or the best HBO shows like Sex and the City,
