Films that at some point took away my sleep and tranquility.

General Reviews

Horror is a genre I really enjoy, and I don't get scared as much as expected, but things were different when I was a kid. I was terrified, and the worst part about being scared of a movie is watching the same movies later in life when you're an adult and thinking, "Was I scared of that?"

An American Werewolf in London:

A film that is now a classic that tells the story of two American students who go backpacking in Europe, and while in a small town in the English countryside, they are attacked by an animal that they believe to be a wolf. One of them dies and the other is seriously injured and it turns out that the creature that attacked them is a werewolf. The boy who survives, David, ends up discovering that he is infected and begins to have visions of his dead friend while waiting for what might happen on the next full moon.

The Exorcist

Who didn't grow up in the 80s or 90s and wasn't haunted by this film? For a long, long time, I didn't even have the courage to watch the full film. The whole idea behind the film is quite terrifying, and there's no way as a child, I wouldn't have been terrified by the story of a girl whose life was devastated after being possessed by the devil for years. To make matters worse the film is based on a true story that took place in Italy.

The Omen

This film is based on a book which, in turn, is based on the Bible, the book of Revelation from the Bible to be more precise. It tells the story of the Antichrist and how he would arrive on Earth. In the movie version, he would be the son of a very rich and powerful man, and the child would be born with the number 666 on his head. And you follow the story of the boy Damien in these movie, and it was scary because in the 80s, most people believed that was how the son of the devil would arrive on Earth.

Rosemary's Baby

Another movie based on the devil spreading his offspring across the earth. Why? It's a mystery... but anyway... It's a tense, very tense movie that makes me very scared and disgusted. I don't think I ever quite understand the script... but I was scared to death anyway!

Let the Right One In

It's a Swedish horror film about a vampire. The plot tells the story of Oskar, a 12-year-old boy who lives a lonely life and is bullied at school. Until one day, he meets Eli, a girl who moves into his building, and his life changes completely.

Stigmata

The film tells the story of Frankie Page (Patricia Arquete) who is not a religious person at all, but after receiving a rosary as a gift from someone begins to suffer from the stigmas. The Catholic Church believes that these are miracles or parapsychological phenomena that happen to extremely religious people who begin to experience bleeding in areas of their bodies that represent the wounds of Jesus Christ that effectively led to his death, but these people experience this bleeding and wounds without having actually cut themselves. The film is very scary and presents very realistic characteristics and was also based on several real cases studied by the Vatican, which believes that people who suffer from stigmata are messengers of God.

These are the films that scare me or that took away my sleep (maybe even my peace) when I was younger.
