Well, how can I put it? I'm well aware of how the story unfolds, and the characters in this show don't fully match the image I have in my mind. But I still believe this show is worth watching, perhaps because it's an adaptation of the original anime that has captivated me for years. However, the character portrayals still feel too simplistic, especially Luffy. In this show, he lacks the captivating charm of the manga and has too little screen time, giving the illusion that Koby is the main character instead.

As a huge fan of the anime "One Piece," I approach this live-action adaptation with a forgiving mindset, understanding that capturing the unique art style of the anime in a live-action format is quite challenging. This live-action version does have some redeeming qualities in certain aspects. The casting choices are great, as Luffy and Usopp stay true to the original characters. It's reasonable to make some changes in the plot. However, the color tones of the visuals in this live-action version appear somewhat off, and the acting could be better.

The costumes and makeup are well-executed, and the casting exceeded expectations. However, for "One Piece," the live-action version feels somewhat empty. I can't sense that boundless imagination and passion present in the live adaptation. It's not just a gap between anime and live-action; I believe it's also because, while Netflix provided funding, there wasn't enough time for the production team to fully refine this work. Therefore, they opted for the safest narrative formula while often relying on classic lines.

As a fan of the anime version, I'm looking forward to the next season. It's surprisingly good, staying true to the scenes from the anime. The casting is spot-on, especially the actor portraying Luffy; he perfectly captures Luffy's demeanor and physicality. Nami's initial appearance may be average, but she becomes more pleasing as the show progresses. Other characters also deliver exceptional performances with exquisite makeup. The live-action adaptation conveys emotions in a more nuanced way compared to the anime. Overall, I absolutely loved this adaptation; it was a delightful surprise.

An epic adventurous tale about freedom and dreams, filled with worldly wisdom and intriguing folklore. Its grand world-building, captivating foreshadowing, imaginative settings, and amusing mythological references, coupled with its exploration of issues like justice, war, truth, class, and race, truly make One Piece the top youth anime.

I'm probably going to catch some flak here, but I feel like this show really misses the mark. It's hard to find anything redeeming about it. Almost every aspect of it falls short. As someone who's never seen a live adaptation of an anime before, I can't help but wonder how bad the others must be if this is considered one of the good ones by so many. I'm not knocking the effort and dedication put into this show, but unfortunately, it doesn't translate well on screen. The vibrant energy and depth you find in the anime's visuals and original Japanese voice acting just don't carry over here. Instead, the visuals come off as low-budget and amateurish, and the acting feels dull and unconvincing. Kudos to them for attempting to bridge the gap between animation and live action, but ultimately, this show falls flat.

I've seen my fair share of live adaptations, including some well-known anime ones, and I have to admit, most of them have fallen short, with only a handful coming close to the mark, like "Alice in Borderland". However, "One Piece" has truly exceeded expectations, particularly considering the unique art style of the anime. It sets a high standard for future live adaptations to follow. For fans of epic journeys, adventure, emotional storytelling, intricate world-building, action-packed scenes, backstories, and mysteries, "One Piece" is an absolute must-watch.

I don't know anything about the source material in particular or anime in general. The series is compulsively watchable for several reasons.
The first is world-building. The setting is fantastical, but the show makes it effortlessly understandable and relatable. The second is characterization. The characters here are mostly tropes, but they're so likable and fleshed out by the performers that you can't help getting invested in them.
The third is the light-hearted positivity that pervades the series. It touches on some pretty dark issues, but the show and its irrepressibly optimistic protagonist always have a positive outlook. Having faith in other people is actually rewarded, rather than being made into a subject of mockery or denigration. Imagine that in 2024.

I have to admit that I've never watched any episodes of the animated show “One Piece” or even heard about it, for that matter. I'm not really a big fan of anime. After watching the trailers for "One Piece", I thought it looked like a children's show. I was wrong. I kept reading about how good this show is and how it's #1 on Netflix, so I thought I'd give it a chance. I'm glad I did, because I couldn't have been more wrong. This is a show that people of all ages can enjoy. If you can just turn off your brain and watch, I promise you'll have a good time. If you're looking for a new show to binge, give “One Piece” a try. You won't be disappointed!

NETFLIX stands as a pivotal battleground for dismantling the essence of intellectual property culture, and this rendition of One Piece is a grand yet foolish cosplay feast. Everything seems adequately reconstructed, but under the director's incompetence, the entire content barely scratches the surface. The heart and soul of One Piece are glaringly absent, rendering the entire series shallow and tedious, making each episode a painful ordeal to endure. I can't fathom how many more Japanese anime IPs NETFLIX plans to obliterate, or how many more cherished anime treasures Japan is willing to hand over for NETFLIX to annihilate. If there's to be a second season of such a rendition of One Piece, the least we can ask is for actor Mackenyu to keep his eyes open. Thank you!

It’s much better than expected. The casting isn’t a rigid imitation of cosplay, instead, it tries to portray the charm of 2D animation as much as possible using the three-dimensional world, restoring the charm of the original work. The original author, Eiichiro Oda, supervised the production, finetuning and streamlining the plot details without ruining the main content. It evokes the same yearning for the sea and freedom as depicted in the manga, bringing to mind the passion and emotions we felt when we first watched it. It is one of the best adaptations of manga into films, sticking true to the original work, and should be the model for future adaptations of other mangas. 8 episodes is simply too short!

Overall it was within my expectations. There are good things, such as casting, scenes, some of the styling, storyline choreography, details shown, etc.; there are also undesirable things, such as character relationships, action sequences, backgrounds scaled down, etc., and some of these deficiencies may actually be disadvantages of a live-action anime. All in all, it's still watchable and I’m looking forward to season two.
