The first hour is impressive—tense, varied, and without useless exposition. Unfortunately, likely due to budget constraints, the middle portion feels rushed, skipping key character development and essentially jumping straight to the climax. What should have been an arc of courage and resilience feels prematurely cut.

Through clever use of sound and lighting, "Until Dawn" crafts a genuinely chilling atmosphere. Squeaky floorboards, dim corridors, and eerie silence combine to create a spine-chilling effect. The film's gory deaths and imaginative creature designs push the boundaries of mainstream horror. The time-loop concept brings a smart twist, as each restart introduces new terrors.

The film isn’t a direct adaptation of the game but instead builds a fresh narrative within a similar horror universe. It delivers a decent scare factor with a good mix of chase scenes, ghostly encounters, and even some absurd comedic beats. The atmosphere is intense, and while not groundbreaking, it hits most of the right horror notes.

I haven’t played the game, but "Until Dawn" is surprisingly well-executed as a horror film. The dungeon-like structure, array of supernatural threats, and the immersive, dimly lit setting all make for compelling viewing. The use of phone-camera footage works to recreate a game-like POV, though watching characters filming during life-or-death moments feels like the film's too committed to the gimmick.
