The movie is average and relies heavily on sentimentality. Unfortunately, since I didn’t live through Y2K, there wasn’t much for me to connect with.

This is the kind of movie only A24 would take a chance on. The script is absolutely ridiculous, the acting leaves a lot to be desired, and the budget is clearly minimal. All that’s left is the Y2K gimmick that seemed interesting at first.

This movie wasn’t as funny as I expected. Most of the highlights and jokes are heavily based on millennial American pop culture and slang. If you haven’t lived through that era, you’ll probably be left scratching your head, not really understanding what everyone around you is laughing at. After watching, I can’t help but think that A24’s film selections are getting more and more diversified...

It’s time to party like it’s 1999! Even though I was only 7 years old back then, I have heard of the “Y2K” controversy that floated around. It’s been ingrained into pop culture, at least for us millennials. The newly released movie called Y2K shows us what would’ve happened if ‘90s technology actually came to life and starts killing people. The story is about loner teenager Eli (Jaeden Martell) who is pining after Laura (Rachel Zegler), the popular girl. With his best friend and “charisma incarnate”, Danny (Julian Dennison), they crash the New Years Eve Y2K party, and sh** gets wild. So the movie begins like SUPERBAD, and slowly becomes a SHAUN OF THE DEAD situation. I enjoyed quite a bit of this movie, but it does make some mistakes. Let’s just say the best characters needed more screen time. While watching this movie, absolutely do not try to think logically about what you are seeing, you’ll be at risk of a headache. There are moments that felt like a mediocre SNL skit that got stretched too thin, but I appreciate how Kyle Mooney stuck to his guns and to his unique style of comedy, especially as his directorial debut. He also cowrote. There are a lot of ‘90s references I didn’t get, especially the main cameo from a certain band. I enjoyed some of the characters, some of the humour, and some of the practical effects. Overall, I’d recommend streaming this at home for some B-movie fun. The B is for baked (don’t do drugs).

Este filme não foi tão engraçado quanto eu esperava. A maioria dos momentos de destaque e piadas são fortemente baseados na cultura pop e nas gírias estadunidenses milenares. Se você não viveu essa época, provavelmente ficará coçando a cabeça, sem entender realmente do que todos ao seu redor estão rindo. Após assistir, não posso deixar de pensar que as seleções de filmes da A24 estão cada vez mais diversificadas...

Este é o tipo de filme em que apenas a A24 se arriscaria. O roteiro é absolutamente ridículo, a atuação deixa muito a desejar e o orçamento é claramente mínimo. Tudo o que resta é o artifício do Y2K que parecia interessante no início.

O filme é mediano e depende muito do sentimentalismo. Infelizmente, como não vivi o Y2K, não havia muito com o que me conectar.

Esta película no fue tan divertida como esperaba. La mayoría de los momentos destacados y los chistes están muy basados en la cultura pop y el argot de los millennials estadounidenses. Si no viviste esa época, probablemente te quedes rascándote la cabeza, sin entender de qué se ríen los demás. Después de verla, no puedo evitar pensar que las selecciones de películas de A24 son cada vez más diversas...

Este es el tipo de película que solo A24 se atrevería a realizar. El guion es absolutamente ridículo, las actuaciones dejan mucho que desear y el presupuesto es claramente mínimo. Lo único que queda es la temática de Y2K, que al principio parecía interesante.

La película es promedio y depende mucho de la sentimentalidad. Desafortunadamente, como no viví el Y2K, no hubo mucho con lo que pudiera conectarme.
