This film blends horror, dark humor, and sharp satire to ask a question that’s hard to ignore: Does becoming more attractive lead to a better life? Using an extreme example, it explores whether appearance or personality determines our destinies. In the end, we realize that the true heroes are those who can truly find themselves and refuse to be defeated by reality, like Oswald.

Sebastian Stan’s performance falls flat, especially in the psychological scenes, which feel completely out of place. Anyone with even a basic understanding of psychology may find these moments hard to watch.

A surprisingly great movie. Put Sebastian Stan on the map, for me. It's kind of confusing and more than a little weird, but its creative and unique. I would highly recommend this for a kind of off-the-wall drama/dark comedy.

The film boasts a striking concept, blending suspense with body horror to pose existential questions about identity and self-acceptance. However, its second half falters, relying on underdeveloped character arcs and romantic clichés. Despite stellar performances, the shallow exploration of appearance and identity issues causes the film to squander its potential to be more thought-provoking.

Stripped of its supernatural undertones, this is a grounded exploration of love and social interaction. By contrasting beauty and ugliness, the film underscores a universal truth: beauty does not guarantee love.

The movie's first half was inspired by David Cronenberg's visual style, which makes sense. The setup in the script hinted at a predictable storyline, but things took a nosedive in the latter part of the film at a major turning point, and the story falls short from then on. Furthermore, Sebastian Stan's acting abilities weren't entirely up to the task for this role; bringing the character to life needed a stronger set of psychological skills.

The director focused the film on Adam Pearson, using a "play within a play" technique to delve into the intricate relationships between reality, self-identity, role-playing, and social standing, as well as the portrayal and evolution of true identity and disguise. He also humorously dismissed the idea that fate is predetermined by one's identity. It's a shame that the David Cronenberg-style physical transformation in the first half wasn't fully developed, and some violent scenes were overly simplistic to take care of the overall pace. Additionally, the reflective dialogue at the end felt a bit clichéd, hurried, and shallow.
