Horizon: An American Saga (2024)★ 6.8/10

It's obvious there's an issue with either the script or the editing because the storytelling and pacing are all jumbled up. The movie has a lengthy runtime and a lot of characters, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but a lot of them feel really one-dimensional. I was left scratching my head, wondering what the main storyline was really about, what the characters wanted, and why they were doing what they were doing. There's just a ton of stuff that leaves me wondering.

This movie has a tight story that brings together three distinct parts, all while introducing the main characters and their struggles in a tight and solid story. One cool thing is that there's a good mix of strong, fierce female characters. You can see a tough woman character in almost every storyline. The whole vibe is epic and meaningful, with breathtaking visuals that make you reflect on how tiny and delicate life can seem next to the vastness of nature. So, if you're into Westerns or dig Taylor Sheridan's stuff, you must check this out.

I'd give this movie a solid 7.5 out of 10. It's a fresh take on the old Western genre, with multiple storylines that keep you engaged. The mountain landscapes are stunning, and the music is epic. Even though this first chapter is mostly about introducing the characters, I have no doubt that the rest of the story will be even more thrilling.

This movie felt like a really dragged-out episode of a TV show. The editing was a bit choppy, and the pacing was all wrong – the opening was way more exciting than the rest of the film. Since they didn't add much to the story, many everyday scenes could've been trimmed to keep the runtime under two and a half hours. I'm crossing my fingers that chapter two will be more thrilling.
