Let's Talk About...March 6, 2024
Let's Talk About...March 6, 2024Only for Benicio Del Toro fans! Benicio Del Toro's comeback shines in this film, echoing the brilliance he displayed in "Sicario". Even though the pacing is slow, the standout performances from the lead actors compensate for it. The intricately developed storyline, while occasionally predictable, manages to deliver unexpected twists, keeping viewers captivated throughout its extended two-hour runtime. Also, it gave off a "The Little Things" vibe. Don’t expect too much!

theohoratioMarch 6, 2024It’s a solid but not spectacular crime thriller that is absolutely elevated by Benicio del Toro’s lead performance. The film has a bit of a plodding and methodical pace, which works to the film's detriment. Maybe I’ve watched too many movies, but I thought it was fairly obvious that when we were seeing certain characters on screen, it was solely because it would be revealed that they were somehow involved with the criminal enterprise at the end. I liked the development of Alicia Silverstone and Del Toro’s characters. Their relationship was well developed and led to one of the highlights of the film—a moment where Silverstone’s character is potentially in danger. I was pleasantly surprised by this, given the middling reactions and reviews, which I also understand. I’d still recommend it.

toKoralíOctober 18, 2023An orthodox "cliché" (pejorative) crime film; it’s easy to guess from the beginning what the story is going to be or what the characters’ motivations are, but it must drag slightly all the way until the end, where it takes a detour with more twists and turns before revealing the so-called truth. Benicio del Toro's performance is worth a look, and I will even expect this to be a crime drama that we'll see again in the future.

Remigio3October 18, 2023Unlike the fickle and showy detective movies of recent years, this one is calm and restraint; with Benicio del Toro's excellent acting (his eyes & brows can speak on their own!), it went very well together, and I was kinda surprised that I liked it. The seemingly random editing doesn't feel messy, rather, it feels like there's a great variety of clues being expressed, and isn't it nice to see a director's debut movie achieve that?

thbzcrt_7October 18, 2023The conceptual design of the audio-visual is awesome, with various techniques enhancing the appeal of the story. The cinematography is a big boost, supporting the emotions of the characters. And I realized that this film is trying to observe the style of 1970s Hollywood cop movies & political thrillers. The narrative pace plods unnecessarily, but a pervasive mood of distrust is present throughout, questioning everyone around and every motive.
