K AugustAugust 23, 2025It is a silly film, and truly protofascist...but a ridiculously fun ride, all the same.
Paul Verhoeven's science-fiction creation has become something of cult film for those who feel that it is diamond far too rough to be appreciated by the potato eaters who enjoy more Jedi-based fare. Its special effects are as a bad as the dialogue, and I could have done with at least one actor who recited his lines like a real person instead of an ad for recruitment agencies.
But I would like to take the ride again.

Leydi Laura Jiménez FrancoAugust 24, 2024Starship Troopers: A Futuristic Military Satire
"Starship Troopers" is a science fiction film directed by Paul Verhoeven, based on the novel of the same name by Robert A. Heinlein. Set in a dystopian future, the plot follows a group of young recruits who join the military to fight against an insectoid alien race.
Positive Aspects:
Social and political satire: The film is a biting satire of military propaganda, exacerbated nationalism and the glorification of war. Through exaggeration and irony, Verhoeven criticizes totalitarian systems and questions the nature of violence.
Visual effects: The special effects, although dated, are impressive for their time and contribute to creating a believable and action-packed futuristic world.
Production design: The film's aesthetics are visually striking, with production design reminiscent of World War II propaganda films.
Soundtrack: Basil Poledouris' soundtrack is epic and memorable, perfectly complementing the action and atmosphere of the film.
Negatives:
Excessive Violence: The film contains a great deal of graphic violence, which may be off-putting to some viewers.
Fascist Propaganda: Although the intent is satirical, the film can be misinterpreted as a glorification of violence and militarism.
Flat Characters: The characters are mostly archetypes, lacking much psychological depth.
Overwrought Dialogue: The dialogue is often exaggerated and full of clichés, which can be comical but also unrealistic.
Constructive Criticism:
"Starship Troopers" is a film that divides opinions. While its message is clear and its aesthetics are striking, excessive violence and flat characters may be a turn-off for some viewers. It is important to understand that the film is a satire and not a celebration of war.
Bottom Line:
"Starship Troopers" is a thought-provoking film about the dangers of nationalism and propaganda. Despite its flaws, it is a visually stunning piece of work with a powerful message. If you're looking for a sci-fi film with a dose of social criticism, "Starship Troopers" is a good choice.

Brandi_MullenJuly 31, 2024The film's clean and fresh visual style is impressive, especially for a 1997 production that realistically depicts outer space and alien planets. The narrative revolves around the transition between citizen and civilian status. Although the film outlines the duties of a citizen from the beginning, it doesn't delve deeply into the differences. The victory at the end is somewhat rushed, with the alien bug nest not fully wiped out, leaving room for future sequels.

Pe23RoSJuly 31, 2024The scenes of the starship traversing space are awe-inspiring, especially considering they were made in the '90s. The moment when the bugs launch their venom at the fleet is particularly impressive, highlighting the vastness of the universe and the insignificance of humanity. However, the script could have been more substantial with deeper explorations of human nature, science fiction themes, and alien races.

A revisita foi ótima, pois me provou completamente equivocada, segue interessante.
