After watching this film, all I could think was that a woman with talent greater than a man’s is truly unfortunate…

This is an early film from the director, and you can really see a clear difference in how he approached filmmaking compared to his later works. In his more recent films, the characters often have these quiet, introspective moments. But when he was starting out, he didn't take the risk of having characters stay silent, so in this film, they talk non-stop, to the point where it’s almost overwhelming. Still, this film earned him the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival, so it’s definitely a good one.
