Beneath the seemingly ordinary mystery lies the story of a hero's rise from obscurity. The film subtly argues that every superhero needs a supervillain. This is classic Shyamalan—low-budget, plot-driven filmmaking. It’s the kind of film that requires a more patient and thoughtful audience to appreciate.

Though the plot is fairly slow, Bruce Willis delivers a believable portrayal of a man grappling with confusion and aimlessness. The O. Henry-style twist ending, when you think about it, is deeply philosophical.
