THE LUCKY GIRL

Short Story

The week has been difficult. She had a terrible fight with her family, her best friend left her, her brother left early morning for karting and didn't come back for the whole weekend after the intense fight, she has been receiving voice messages of unknown numbers that looked like out of a horror movie. It's weird but true.

Jennifer started to ask herself, what's the point of this life? We looked like a perfect  family. Not divorced parents, economically stable at the point we siblings can be at our dream sport, scholarships in one of the greatest colleges of the country stydying what we love, good grades, and great friends. So why aren't I am happy???

The siblings went to their apartment in silence, no one attempted to start a conversation after the terrible fight.

Once they arrived, they got ready for their activities. Bruno took his helmet and left without saying a word, while Jennifer got her bow and arrow ready for archery. But once she put her hand on the knob, something in her made her stop.

“Mom and dad never supported us at all, we are just doing our best so they can get rid of us. That's why they don't call us when we are overseas, or the calls we had are only 30 seconds or less.”

She wasn't wrong at some point, their father would pressured them to be perfect and say yes to everything even when they don't want too. They wanted them to smile all the time even when we aren't okay, and when they see them cry he gets mad. Specially with Bruno. Maybe that's why he comes home late.

She was also tired and depressed and went to the balcony with a last minute objective. But something made her stop: There's a bunch of people includin children, neighbors, and known faces who see the best of her. The idea of people seeing her last seconds of life jumping of a high place embarrassed her, traumatizing the people, and stain the place.

Jennifer grabbed a small rock from the floor and threw it unexpectedly landing in a vacant lotion the other side of the park. That stunned her,and realize her luck.

Usually people who have depression are blinded by their inner demons, making them things they don't want to. Only the luckiest ones can stop them and think about their surrounding or the signs God and the universe give to them. She was one of them

She realized she was so lucky to have a life every person dreams for, and thought deep down her heart is that their parents aren't bad, just broken. But them along her and her brother have to keep living no matter what. And thought it was time to let go Star, her friend, and if life causally reunite them, she will be welcome.

She went living room and grabbed her diary to write what she learned. Suddenly the door opened: It was Bruno covered with scratches and the teared uniform caused by a little crash at the karting circuit.

The sibling looked at each and the worried face of Jennifer was visible.

Bruno talked: Hey, I think I learned something…

Jennifer sighed: So do I

Sometimes the smallest things save you,the rock landing in the lotion bottle feels like the universe was like "hey wait hold on" glad she and Bruno are okay

This is a good start for a story! I think maybe drawing out these realization and showing us how the main character gets to them might help improve the emotional connection with her! For example, maybe show the brother coming back earlier, and maybe you can play with how the clothing that's been torn and his accident go-karting makes her feel like she's not going through this alone or something!

You should try writing something that's more personal to you. As it is, you fall back on played-out tropes. If you write something that more aligns with your real life, the characters won't feel so fabricated
