What happened to The Testament of Ann Lee?

So, yesterday I've watched The Testament of Ann Lee for the first time and it shocked me that the movie wasn't more succesful in the box office.

It's a mix of The Brutalist meets Hamnet and it seems that it hadn't much promotion than these movies.

It's a raw, violent and realistic movie. I kind of get it, it's slow and also a musical so that kind of turn off for some but it's a good movie.

Amanda Seyfried once again proving that is one of the best actress-singer of her generation and was robbed of that Oscar nomination above Kate Hudson.

What are your thoughts?

I watched it yesterday as it appeared on Disney Plus. Who knew I could be interested in the founder of the Shakers?! I'm a bit embarrassed to say that the only thing I knew about the Shakers what that they made good furniture, as I had read in many design and architecture mags about 'Shaker style' kitchens etc. I'm from the north of England so it was super interesting to me to see how Anne made the move from Manchester to the USA. And to see, in great detail, how she and her followers expanded their numbers without the members having their own kids. After seeing the brutality of her getting pregnant so often, and losing her kids, I bet soooo many women were happy to join up. It's amazing that they got the film made in such a time of blockbusters and re-boots, so power to them. Gotta be honest though, it won't be a rewatch for a very long time, as it was totally full on.

I found it a bit slow and carnal and a bit frustrating when I saw it in theatres, but I actually could not stop thinking about it for weeks after!
