John Wick 1 : Low Budget Drives Creative

The Apple Store mundane nature of the first 15 minutes of John Wick, and up until he smashes up his gear, is the contrast that makes this movie work so well. And it’s sequels struggle to find meaning in the boondoggle of lore that shows up once he’s Back.

The hyper-economical nature of the first film is what made it as lean and badass as it is.

I remember watching the first one and thinking they should expand on the lore, cause they only hinted at it. Then the sequels came out, and it was waaaaaay too much lore.

I agree! I think there is something raw and rugged about keeping it low budget
