What´s your take on subtitles?

Curious to hear everyone’s take on this, do you prefer watching films or series with subtitles, or do you think they ruin the experience?

Personally, I enjoy watching with subs. Without them, I miss the chance to read the script, to imagine how the actor might deliver a line and then get surprised (or impressed) by their actual performance. Subtitles can reveal just how well-written and well-acted a scene really is. 

Of course, I get the counterargument: subs can interfere with cinematography and composition.

I love subtitles! Fully rely on them! I've never felt them inhibit me from enjoying the other components of the film! It just helps me understand the dialogue better!

I'm anti-subtitles, unless i need them b/c of language barrier. For me, they distract me from the movie. And sometimes they reveal a plot point before it's actually meant to be revealled. And sometimes a director makes some dialogue purposefully unhearable. It's meant to be immersive. For me, not every word needs to be heard. It's what you catch that matters.

I’ve got used to reading subtitles, so I can say I actually like them. It really depends on whether I can understand the actors’ accents or not. On top of that, I have a hearing problem and often can’t hear very well, so I always go for subtitles. I also feel like I’m reading the story while watching it.
