A couple of weeks ago, I saw the F1 movie, the last one I saw. In a short time, it became one of my favorites of the year. Especially because a year ago, I was introduced to the whole philosophy: the protocol, the rules, techniques, tools, and history. Something I'm very grateful for. I never thought they'd make a movie soon after.@ @The film tells the story of Sonny Hayes, a top driver who retired from Formula One after a tragic accident. 30 years later, a former teammate named Rubén Cervantes convinces him to save the struggling APXGP team from collapse. Sonny returns to Formula One racing, where he is paired with rookie driver Joshua Pearce and engineer Kate McKenna. Throughout the story, Sonny realizes that he cannot take the road to redemption on his own. @@

And for that, I wrote a concept about the crucial role of women in F1: Pit Girls. Later, I'll do a self-insert in an English challenge within the film's plot as an example for introducing one of the characters.

Introduction to the term "Pit Girls"

They are women aged 18 and over who play an important role in the Pit Crew. A technical team of professionals who must perform mechanical tasks during the race.

In a parallel universe, pit girls were introduced to Formula 1 five years after its inception. The founders saw the potential women had in STEAM fields thanks to the crucial role women played in historical events such as the World Wars, the Industrial Revolution, and even the Mexican Revolution. In the latter, they took the Adelitas, women who actively participated in the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920), as a reference.

Why are Pit Girls considered goddess and deserve more recognition?

Unlike WAGs (a term used for drivers' beautiful partners), Pit Girls play a direct role in motorsports, far from being assistants to mechanics.

They have varied roles. Great examples include paramedics, nurses, radio operators or "Hello Girls," mechanics, engineers, car or suit designers, strategists, coaches, and overall leaders.

They're always there, fulfilling their duties while continuing their studies, caring for a child, or being pregnant. Some even gave birth in the infirmary, and were given time off to recover. If they're WAGs, their partners are also given permission to take a break from the adrenaline rush to be with their families.

If the misters *reluctantly* took care of other things or were procrastinating in the pits, the Pit Girls would get to work and save the drivers in the middle of the race.

Some started at age 15 as academic internships in high school or college, taking the job just to keep their enrollment or be close to the pilots. But they were so compromised by the job that went beyond thirsting over men that they sacrificed several aspects of their personal lives to begin a new life with great opportunities.

Relationship between the Pit Girls and the Drivers

Just because they no longer feel anything for the drivers doesn't mean they don't show empathy. They are loyal colleagues, and they know full well that F1 is like a battlefield where boys are treated coldly to become men. This requires overexploitation, abuse, manipulation, and humiliation, and it's no secret that they are forced to cry in secret from the public eye to avoid being punished by their managers.

Because of this, the Pit Girls were able to provide emotional support in secret and were always there for those suffering from depression or having catastrophic thoughts. Even like soldiers and nurses during the World Wars, the younger Pit Girls were called "sisters" and the veterans "mothers" by the rookies (first-time or novice drivers), especially during periods of crisis.

This led people to create rumors of romances and affairs. They even said they slept with someone to get their job. Even so, they continued working and fighting for what they believed in.

Their role is so crucial that they even strengthened areas like the F1 Academy for female representation on the track. But that's another story.

Great insights on women’s potential in a parallel world. If only we lived in one like that, lol. but we are building it bit by bit right?

hihi, i do like your take on emphasizing the role of women in F1, especially in the all-important role of being in a pit crew. but i think emphasizing on "girls" rather than simply acknowledging that they are part of the pit crew, being equally important as everyone on the team - just by calling them "pit crew", like everyone else - seems like a '2 steps forward 1 step back' kind of progression to me (think perhaps, 'female' doctors. Maybe in context of a gender study there's a need to differentiate between males and females in a field, but beyond that, aren't they all doctors? I mean, you wouldn't point at your cousin and go, "She's a female doctor!" would you?) Of course, feel free to share your thoughts!
