Studio Ghibli

My favorite animated world is an ambitious title, but there is definitely one world that deserves it. Now, you my dear, may or may not like the man, may or may not like his work, this is why this is MY favorite animated world and I am obligated to add the disclaimer that everything expressed here is solely from my opinion and will try my best to avoid truth claims that are stupid, such as: “this is the best studio ever” or “Ghibli does what nobody else can” or so on. I make it clear that everything in this article is solely my opinion and doesn't intend to be an absolute truth! Having said that, let's begin!

I can't believe I haven't seen this yet, so I will be the one to share it.

Hayao Miyazaki y el premiado regreso al cine de un creador ...

Japanese people have some great works in animation. Not for nothing there are generations! of people that are fans of their work, but when their work became famous, became profitable, it also became souless. Don't get me wrong, I don't think in order for your work to have a soul it necessarily doesn't make any money. However! There is a reason why so many works are exactly the freaking same! Sorry, I lost it for a second there, but they are and they have been for years, it's not anything new. Shojo: Sailor Moon is only as famous as it is because of luck and I am not apologizing! Because Sailor Moon wasn't even the first shojo ever, everything Sailor Moon did, someone else had done before, but Sailor Moon got the flowers, why Sailor Moon? I have no idea. Personally, out of all Magical Girl Shojo, my favorite is Saint Tail Adventures, which most people don't know. Check it out: Wedding Peach, Sailor Moon (1992), Cardcaptor Sakura (1996) and if you search, you'll find dozens of examples! of shows that feel like the same show over and over again but with a different skin. And this is no accident, people just start writing withouth having anything to tell, you have no story, you have no message, you don't even have ability and when you only have a reference, your work ends up being the copy of that refence. Happens to Shonen, happens to manhwa, happens to all those stories about isekai, regression, reincarnation, transmigration, villainesses, etc! It was fine the first hundred times, but at this point it is clear you have no idea what you want to write about and the way people will defend them is even worse! “Hear me out bro, this is really original” No, it is not! If you are using the same same template for the nth time, it is not original! (੭ꐦ •̀Д•́ )੭ ┻━┻

"I cannot promise you that this company will be a success or that we will make lots of money. But I can promise you that we will make films that we are proud of."

Miyazaki once said this in a documentary. Now Ghicbli is a success, it has their own museum, I don't know how it can't get any more successful, but even more importantly, the movies that were made there are movies the people who made them are proud of, with every reason to be.

These movies may be simply too complicated for some people, but I have yet to find a person who does not want to climb Totoro and sleep on him when they see My neighbor Totoro. Maybe you are the first, I mean, the internet is a wide place, but there is definitely a frame that you can fall in love with, either you wish you could eat the food or walk through the gardens in the movies. Every frame is drawn with love and I can feel it while watching the movies, the scenes full of colors, characters and environments, I can see at the very least the work people put on those movies.

Today even using more technology, the animations sometimes come out like something made in PowerPoint! That is just sad. I am saying SOMETIMES. But why? Ghibli does beautiful animations with paper and pen.

Miyazaki said Ghibli is just a name, but Ghibli is a beautiful name that will be sweet in the lips of the people who have liked their movies.

This is a love letter to every person who made Ghibli what it became today. Thank you for working on things you loved, thank you for working for something other than just money.

Nothing worse than an anime fanboy defending some weird, obscure, terrible anime and telling you how original it really is. Nice article. What's your favourite Studio Ghibli movie?
