The Super Empty Mario Galaxy Movie ⭐⭐
General ReviewsSuper Mario Galaxy Movie is the latest sequel from the 2023 movie, and this is supposed to be an adaptation of the well known Super Mario Galaxy game
Once again, Chris Pratt, Keegan Michael Key, Jack Black, Anya Taylor Joy return to their original voice roles, and adding Donald Glover, Brie Larson, Benny Safdie and Glen Powell

Where is the Plot?
Beside of the flaws, I liked Super Mario Bros Movie, and I expect it to be in the same level this sequel or at least fix some of the mistakes they had, but Galaxy didn‘t offer anything. This movie feels like a bunch of YouTube Shorts merged into a big feature, and some people might say, ‘Oh, the videogames are like that‘… well, this is called an adaptation, and for a game it mostly works, but for a nearly 2 hour movie, doesn‘t.
The first movie deliver some great moments and laughs, but Galaxy Movie there was barely a story, or even dialogue. The jokes were mostly made by Yoshi, but it‘s like the writing felt a little off this time around.

No Substance, but Strong Technical Aspects
Like the original film, this sequel delivers some stunning visuals, gorgeous animation, and a score that feels like another character in the movie. The incredible voice acting is top-notch, and I thought Glen Powell‘s voice as Fox McLoud is one of the strongest aspects of the film.
Other characters miss the mark completely, like Bowser Jr, or even the Bowser itself. Rosalina got dropped out of the movie, basically the entire film and her sub-plot doesn‘t get anywhere interesting, no resolution for the Princesses.
Basically, the entire games of Mario are lack of substance, but that doesn‘t mean that could work as a movie.

We Need a Mario Movie That Fans Deserve
This should have been a bigger movie with some adventure moments stick together, but this is another piece where Peach ends up carrying the film, and having Mario and Luigi as background characters. The thin plot never place them as the main characters to follow, and the film doesn‘t help them either.
Yoshi is another missed chance to redeem at least a part of the film. He is cute, and visually it‘s awesome, and while the casting of Glover is weird, but he is like the Grogu for Nintendo fans, but his origin story feels rushed, no exposition, and then the plot moves along like nothing happened. Instead of feeling like an important Mario character, Yoshi is placed like a comedic relief, which feels something bad, because Yoshi as a character is one of the best parts of the Nintendo franchise.
The action sequences are still one of the best parts of the film. But, when it comes to the end of the movie it kind of ends abruptly, it‘s like the writer forgot to deliver a good resolution to the film, and I was on the theater, a kid behind me even shared the same feeling as I do, ‘That was all?‘ Yeah, I shared your sentiment, kid.

Conclusion
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie still is strong in some aspects, but if they want to continue to make the Nintendo fans happy, and overall the general audiences they need to come up with a better story, and not depending of ‘because the games are like that‘ excuse, for a game, yeah… might work. But for a film? Yeah…no.
