Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model delivers exactly what it promises, nothing.
General ReviewsThe reality check is on us. For Tyra Banks, she is still performing and not owning her shit, as clearly shown by her final speech, which is perfectly followed by Dani's reaction, that sums up everything.
To be totally honest, no one actually did. The entire series was a big “Well, different times, things were like this, we were not the only ones, and people did not complain back then…”There is no reflection on anything, no responsibility or regrets, it's just how it was. Even for the participants, besides Shadi, that really breaks my heart, how sad she is and how all this completely destroyed her soul, and no amount of editing could hide that. The rest was so meticulously put together that everything feels just like a big “oopsie!”.
So, what was the purpose of this documentary anyway? To me, it just proves that nothing really changed, and to be honest, if the Cycle 25 Tyra mentioned happened, people would watch. But what bothers me the most, besides the fact that no one had the courage to say that Shadi was actually raped on camera, is why they did not address the fact that no one who participated in this show for twenty fucking four seasons became a top model? It's clear that after the show, they just threw the girls to the wolves and let them be eaten, but how is this not considered a major failure? What did they accomplish with this show beyond reinforcing how toxic the industry is, racism, sexism and humiliation? Oh yeah, they did make some people really rich. But else? NOTHING! They did nothing else. They actually made it worse for these girls, which makes everything even worse to watch.
For the girls, especially Shadi, my true empathy and sorority. I wish you all had better lives and opportunities after all this. To the rest of the ANTM team and whoever made this documentary so shallow and irrelevant, shame on you.
