The Housemaid is Erotic, Thrilling and Silly

General Reviews

The Housemaid is the new adaptation of the original book, directed by Paul Feig and stars Amanda Seyfried, Sydney Sweeney and Brandon Skelnar

The story follows Millie Calloway, a young woman with a troubled past, who becomes the live-in maid for a wealthy family. They are perfect at first, but then she discovers that they hold on too many dark secrets.

It is based on a book and has major differences

Although the book has more complex into the story, the differences are not as palpable as other storylines presented in the movie. The movie does a very good job at selling the tension and the thriller aspect from the very beginning, allowing the audience to inmerse in the family dynamic of this people, and how Millie is represented as we were her.

The book has a lot of twists and turns, but the movie pays homage to those twists and turns in a very unexpected way.

It‘s going to please a lot of Sydney Sweeney‘s fans

Sydney Sweeney brings her own sex appeal into this movie. Sweeney doesn‘t shine as a performer, she doesn‘t really capture the essence of Millie‘s soul and personality from the book, and as actor is left to desire.

Amanda Seyfried gives a powerful performance as Nina, she bring her A-Game into the script and really shows that she is talented enough to even sustain the movie, even if Sydney doesn‘t. Brandon Skelnar also he‘s a decent actor and gives a good performance through the movie.

It is a silly movie, but at least it knows

The Housemaid is full of twist and turns, unexpected scenes, erotic sequences and a ending at the level of Avengers, in that order. But the good thing is that director Paul Feig clearly knows that this movie is silly, and plays with the concept for 2 hours.

You will never get bored, or try to find common sense, because the movie already knows what kind it is, and gets funnier.

Conclusion

One thing I need to highlight is that The Housemaid is the first movie to have a good lightning in scenes, it feels like I‘m watching those movies from the 90s, every dark corner is well lit and I‘m thankful for that.

But, The Housemaid is a rollercoaster of everything that is happening through two different perspectives and the twists and turns are so well made, but it become more silly by the end.
