WFF '25: Wrong Husband Capsule Article

General Reviews

Situated in the barren tundras of Igloolik, Wrong Husband is about two young kids, Sapa and Kaujak, who, upon their birth, were promised to one another. After the sudden death of her father, Kaujak and her mother are taken away from their tribe to another one. There, Sapa and Kaujak's love is put to the test. Will they ever find each other again?

Wrong Husband unravels like a traditional folktale being passed from history into the present. Spoken entirely in Inuktitut, the movie immerses viewers directly into the heart of Inuit traditions and mythology. There is no oral narration but it feels as though there is; Kunuk skillfully creates a visual narrative that leads the story, creating an effect that feels like a memory and one that maps Sapa and Kaujak's history into the very landscape of Igloolik.

Filled with gorgeous shots of the landscape, Wrong Husband brings Nunavut to life, creating a world full of mysticism and longing.

I've heard a lot about this director lately. He's somewhat of a Canadian icon. I'll have to stay on the lookout for this film.

Short but sweet! I'd love to see a movie that focuses on Inuit characters
