Predator: Badlands- AMS

General Reviews

Predator: Badlands is the kind of film that surprises you — not with jump scares or gore, but with perspective. For the first time in the franchise, the Predator isn’t the monster stalking the shadows. He’s the lens. A young Yautja named Dek becomes our guide into a culture we’ve only ever glimpsed, and that shift cracks open the entire mythology.

From the first frame, the movie feels like a rebirth — a bold reinvention that trades the traditional human-vs-beast formula for alien world-building, emotional depth, and mythic sci-fi adventure. The visuals hit hard: a hostile planet glowing with strange fauna, lethal landscapes, and a tech-rich aesthetic that feels both futuristic and primal.

The heart of the film comes from the unexpected partnership between Dek and an android ally. It’s the last thing anyone expected from a Predator movie — a strange, sharp, almost tender dynamic that adds humanity in the most ironic way: through a machine and a monster.

Not everyone will love the new tone. It’s less savage, less brutal, less horror. The PG-13 approach undeniably softens the edges. But what it loses in gore, it recovers in narrative clarity and cosmic curiosity. Badlands isn’t trying to be the old Predator. It’s trying to grow beyond it.

And honestly, it works.

Not as a retread — but as an evolution.

What people are responding to is the imagination, the risk, the alien heart beating underneath the armor. It’s an adventure, a character study, and a visual feast that dares to see the Yautja not as villains but as beings shaped by honor, exile, instinct, and redemption.

For someone like me — who gravitates toward cosmic themes, layered universes, and stories with both darkness and light — Badlands opens a door. A new mythology. A new angle. A new way of seeing a franchise that has chased the same shadows for decades.

I had literally 0 expectations for this movie, but it seems like fans of the franchise are really connecting with it, despite the changes in tone!

I feel like the reviews I've read about this one are 50/50. Some love the android banter, some hate it. Some love the lore, some hate it. Some love the more cartoonish violence, some hate it. I guess I'm gonna have to watch it eventually and decide for myself. Nice review
