General Reviews

That Feeling?

I’m from Canada and the first thing that comes to mind when I think Canadian is a Timmy’s coffee but when I think of movies or TV shows my mind goes a little more blank. I did a ton of research on some of the top movies in Canada, unfortunately I haven’t seen most of them. I was surprised to know that Juno was a Canadian made film with very well known actors. The plot of the story was very grounded and thinking back, it did have a Canadian feel.

What is a Canadian feel?

I think it is a feeling of fimilar, of home. You can sense the culture in the art that they are doing. Maybe there’s a well known face like Keanu or Robin Williams, two great actors of my generation. Sometimes it’s that landscape that you see in the background and it becomes exciting because that’s in your backyard.

The Corner Gas!

This show was made in Saskatchewan and although I haven’t been there myself, it’s still a Canadian show. The actors feel like neighbours you’ve known or close friends that make jokes with a Canadian hook to it. The show is beloved by many and adore by all. They went on to make a cartoon which push the boundaries on what they could do or couldn’t do in the show. I’ve been travelling more as an adult and as a Canadian I’ve never left Canada before but when I did, my first couple of choice were things I’ve seen on TV because they did such a good job at capturing that feeling.

Where have you been?

Recently, I asked myself “Where would I go if I could?” NEW YORK CITY, and it’s all because I grew up watching Friends, Home alone and other films. My second choice was Alaska! The proposal was the reason for that one and it had a familiar face Mr.Ryan Reynolds. Funny enough the story was about a woman from Canada living in the USA. There is so many reason to enjoy life but I think Culture is something special and when you can capture that in a film, it’s just magic.

Canada eh

I’ve always noticed in a film phrases, comments, companies that are Canadian and it feels like a connected world. It’s like Canada is a Cameo in a movie, there’s nothing better than a good cameo you didn’t know you wanted. Like I said before, I think when it comes down to it, it’s truly a feeling you get when you watch something that reminds you of home, that feel good experience we all look forward to having. Canada is a wonderful place to live, the scenery is beautiful and when you finally get a chance to visit, it just may be on your top 10 but hopefully it will be more in your top 3. I’m found Kingston, Ontario and we’re always ready for a movie to be made here. I’ll be the first one to sigh up to be on the big screen. Thanks for reading eh.

Little Mosque On the Prairie was one that my family really enjoyed; never lived on the prairies but it was distinctly Canadian in essence

I distinctly remember staying up to watch Brent and the gang with my grandparents on CBC. They are from Manitoba so they loved the prairie representation lol
