VIFF´25: Father Mother Sister Brother is the Longest Rolex Ad That I‘ve Ever Seen
General ReviewsFather Mother Sister Brother is directed and written by Jim Jarmusch and stars Tom Waitts, Vicky Krieps, Adam Driver, Cate Blanchett and some more
It‘s an anthology film following the stories of Father Mother Sister Brother in non-linear structure.

This is a pointless and random movie
Jim Jarmsuch is a not a director for everyone, but this particular film is one of the most pointless that anyone has ever made. The script has no structure and the stories are not connected, the way it was written it was like Jim was trying to say that families are not perfect.
Okay, so?…
What was the message? What is the point of telling this story?
Every actor in this movie does a fine job in portraying this awkard characters and because this is not connected, I didn‘t understand what was happening during the middle of the film. The first segment with Adam Driver and Tom Waiits was good, offering some good laughs and uncomfortable silence and he was showing some good aspects in this scene, but then the movie cuts to MOTHER segment with Vicky Krieps and the movie starts to stumble on the actual meaning of the movie.

Comedy saved this movie
The comedy in this film was a life savior for this, because without it, this was destined to become a ship without a captain. Jim Jarmusch directs in his signature style, offering some good direction between his actors. The cinematography is on point and the costume design is one of the best aspects of the film.
Music was a big part of the story and felt like another character in this world that Jim created for the audience. Adding to that, this felt like the longest ad for Rolex, every 10 seconds, a character will show off his Rolex without any reason at all.
Jarmusch opted to film this movie with long takes of cars in the highway, I felt this was an excuse to make the movie longer that it should be.

Conclusion
Father Mother Sister Brother is one of the pointless movies that I‘ve ever seen and Jim Jarmusch was trying to do something with the story, but in the end, we get dysfunctional families are a thing, but what you want me to do with that information?
The movie will go straight to streaming on November through MUBI.
