If You Cry With This List... Means You Have a Good Taste in Film

Recommendations

There was a time that movies will wreck us, destroy us, but they deliver a powerful message across the board. Movies are often religion, the characters, their world and the things that we carry until the end of times. I write this list, hoping some people will find meaning, but also, will cry of how beautiful the message is and how the scene conveys so much.

If you haven‘t seen a film, please pretend that you didn‘t see anything.

The ROAD - The Ending

The Road is one of those films that will destroy you emotionally. It‘s about a dad and his son that are trying to survive in a post apocalyptic world that destroy humanity. The movie carries so much weight into Viggo Mortensen performance as a dad risking his own life to save his son for the dangers of the outside world. The ending scene is that the dad dies by some cannibal group, and he is left for dead with his son, not knowing what to do. The dad dies painfully and silently and his son doesn‘t know how to save him, but the scene will get you in tears, it‘s one of those powerful moments that will keep you hooked to the screen.

LION - The Reunion

Lion it‘s a 2016 movie that stars Dev Patel as Saroo, a man who was lost when he was a child in India and eventually got adopted by an australian family and he dedicated his entire life to find his family again. The ending scene shows the real life counterpart of Saroo reuniting with his mother and sister after years spending to find her. When a revelation that his brother Guddu died on the night he went off in the train, the slowly realization of his older brother dying and he will never see him again. The final scene showing an adult Saroo seeing his brother telling him to come and he transforms into a little kid again, and as he remembers his warmth, his endurance and how he felt safe around him and now that he is gone. Hug your brothers.

A Monster Calls - The Truth

A Monster Calls tells the story of Connor as he faces the decay of his mother from a sickness, but in order to grieve and survive the sadness, decides to create an imaginary monster that provides him company and endures the struggle of loneliness.

The truth scene comes when Connor faces the sad truth that his mother is dying and not any medicine or treatment will save her and Connor was struggling all the film to face the reality and when his mom tells him. It‘s heartbreaking. “You be as angry as you need to be,” she said. “Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Not your grandma, not your dad, no one. And if you need to break things, then by God, you break them good and hard.”,  I need to call out to all the wonderful moms who’ve been taken far too soon, god please comfort all their children.

The love of mother is the greatest thing in this world. She wanted to make sure he never felt any type of of regret for being angry for her situation. Hug your mums, hug them as tight as possible, doesn‘t matter if you‘re 30, 40, 60, hug your mums, while they‘re still in this Earth.

The Iron Claw - The Ending

The Iron Claw it‘s based in the real life story of Kevin Von Erich and how he carried a family curse until his adulthood. The Von Erichs were a wrestling family and the ending shows that after the death of all his brothers, and seeing his sons playing in the background, Kevin finally breaks remembering them and how he is now able to let his sons show his emotions. “I used to be a brother“, “Dad, will be your brothers.“ It‘s one of those lines that will emotionally destroy you, specially if you have brothers. Delivered and performed masterfully by Zac Efron.

The Impossible - Calling Home

The Impossible tells the story of an american family who travels to Costa Rica and a Tsunami wrecks the entire city and the family is split. In one of the scenes in the middle of the film, Ewan McGregor character is calling his mom to tell her about his family gone and he heard any news. The scene shows how good people can be, with low battery, a family man gives his last bit to him in order to see if his family is alive and well. But, Ewan‘s character wrecks mid conversation and it‘s devastating and also, shows the range of the actor in how to portray a character in that situation. It‘s almost too real, that you forget that he is acting.

Hachiko - The Ending

Hachiko is one of those movies that you either watch as a kid or as grown adult, and everytime, it hits you hard in the feels, specially if you lost a dog and this movie it‘s impossible not to cry in the ending scene, even if you didn‘t watch the whole film.

The hardest part of having a dog is letting go...

A Dog‘s Journey - The Rainbow Bridge

This movies were made to be a remindful that dogs are precious to this world and having a dog is such a privilige of a lifetime. The ending of this movie shows that his owner Ethan passed away, and so, this version of Bailey, and he finally reaches heaven into the rainbow bridge and meets his owner and embraced each other. It‘s so powerful and it‘s a great representation that all the dogs that went to heaven, are somewhere in there, waiting for us. I miss my dog.

COCO - Remember Me

Coco is such a beloved animated film that will wreck you if you love your family, your grandparents. It‘s how Mexican culture represents in how to celebrate the day of the dead and the ending hits you hard, not also the famous scene of Remember Me, it‘s the final part where the kid is singing and all the ghosts of his beloved family is reunited with them, even though they can‘t see them. It‘s such a beautiful way to end the film and remind you, that they‘re here with us.

Emotional list. A lot of things attached to death. I guess that's not surprising. The Iron Claw one was a battle to get through; such a sad journey.

I skipped the ones I haven't seen, but from what I can see your list is spot on. Coco and CMBYN both get me every time, and The Impossible is guaranteed to get me going in full sobs. It's a different scene though, the reunion between the three brothers is what tips me over the edge. My personal list would also include Gifted and The Florida Project
