True Beauty (2020)★ 7.9/10

That social critique about bullying, about what real beauty is, about friendships and enmities, left the idea about the current way they use makeup so smart and interesting. It has a somewhat silly and innocent humor that may not please everyone and might seem a bit exaggerated at times, but it makes the viewer burst into great laughter.

The scriptwriter is so amazing! Despite being based on a comic, the storyline holds together well, and there are so many episodes that had me laughing in the first half and tearing up in the second, yet the plot overall still unfolds seamlessly. Each character is vividly portrayed and charismatic, their energy and youthfulness even made me feel more courageous and affirmative of myself. I'm now more willing to see kindness and beauty in others and, at the same time, feel more confident to live my life despite the pain and harshness reality can bring sometimes. The characters are all such kind souls.

OMG. This is so awkward. What is even happening here? It's a complete disrespect to the original work. The way the classmates overreacted when the female lead appeared after her makeover was just too over the top. Despite being directed by the same person behind 'Extraordinary You,' this show is just plain terrible.

It started off rough but improved with each episode. It's like the quintessential romantic tale, striking a perfect balance between melodramatic moments and genuine romance. Although the female lead often comes across as clueless, she's actually an endearing girl with a strong sense of empathy. Despite the male lead's less-than-stellar crying scenes, he's just too good-looking, and his character is well fleshed-out. The second male lead has limited screen time, but he's got a good look and decent acting skills. While the school setting may seem outdated, it serves as a gentle reminder not to sweat the small stuff. All things considered, it's a well-crafted romantic drama.

When will they put an end to these productions that claim to champion inner beauty, but still revel in superficiality by casting attractive women in intentionally "ugly" roles? And why is Cha Eun-Woo always selected for this type of role? I just don't get it.

Algunos espectadores mencionaron que la serie comenzó lenta, pero mejoró a medida que avanzaba y estoy de acuerdo con esta opinión. El personaje de la protagonista se desarrolló agradablemente a medida que la serie continuaba. La representación de la segunda protagonista se hizo bastante bien, encajaba con el típico molde de ídolo de drama. Sin embargo, sentí que los personajes masculinos de la serie eran unidimensionales de alguna forma… Aunque debo admitir que el protagonista es indiscutiblemente atractivo.
