A subtle masterpiece that deserved all the success and praise it received! I do not give out too many perfect scores in a review, but this film caught me at the right moment and made me realize just how brave the cast and crew were with material that could have become political (Ireland in 1923 had its issues) and instead became very personal. And when was the last time you watched a film covering the relationship between two grown men that did not mention superheroes and aliens?
Take a bow, and take care of that donkey!

Don't be like Pádraic

One of the two is crazier than a goat. I saw it 10 times and I still can't figure out which one.

Absolutely incredible, had me on the edge of my seat. At first glance, it feels like a dark comedy with characters constantly at odds, but in reality, it's a striking portrayal of inner battles: one part of me reaching for greatness while breaking free from the "ordinary" self, and the other part consumed by resentment from being hated. The island surrounded by cliffs is a perfect symbol of a closed-off heart, and the sounds of gunfire and bells serve as metaphors for the inner voices. McDonagh really nailed the mental state of modern individuals with simple yet precise symbols, and he really cranks it up in the last third of the film. The seemingly ordinary scene at the end by the seaside actually serves as a stark reminder: we're all “prisoners” of Inisherin, in a constant battle with ourselves.

The director's intentions, the cinematography, the storytelling vibe, and the acting are all top-notch. But I just can't get behind this self-righteous and whiny male narrative anymore.

To be alone or to be vulgar?

To be alone or to be vulgar? This was a thought experiment of director Martin McDonagh, it was also an experiment of live. The film was actually about the civil war between two existential crises that erupt on the small island of Inisherin. At the same time, far from the isolated island, on the other side of the sea, is a bigger world, where the sounds of gunfire from the Irish Civil War rang out.

decision to leave

It is the male version of "decision to leave", right? It's too childish. The Venice Film Festival is over...

A única opção é aceitar.

Absolutamente incrível, me deixou inquieto.
