Childhood wonder mixed with pure terror

People always talk about seeing Star Wars in theatres as a kid and how it changed their lives. Well, this is my Star Wars. I was 10 years old when Jurassic Park hit theatres. My dad took me back to see it 3 times. To me, this is the perfect movie. Rich characters brought to life by wonderful performances, larger than life ideas being presented through simple survival action, and all put together by one of the most gifted directors of all time. Not to mention the score by John Williams! When I think of cinema - this is where my heart goes.

In Jurassic Park, Spielberg delivers near-perfect storytelling in terms of pacing, character development, and core conflict. The breakthrough in visual effects greatly enhances the film's appeal. It was in the making of this film that Spielberg found his goal in the industry -- commercial films with exceptional technical prowess.

The blend of practical effects and cutting-edge computer effects created a dinosaur epic ahead of its time. Beyond the impressive visuals, Spielberg explores themes like the disillusionment of idealism and the interplay of natural forces and scientific advancements. The integration of these elements doesn’t disrupt the narrative, thanks to Spielberg's talent for crafting compelling stories with thrilling atmospheres and strong entertainment value.

This film takes me back to my childhood, reminding me of how fascinated I was with dinosaurs. Despite being an old movie, its ideas are timeless, showing nature's punishment for humanity's recklessness. The lack of modern CGI meant relying heavily on acting, which is exceptional here. Dialogue also plays a heavier part here than technology. The dinaosaur models used in the film are incredibly detailed, rivaling any CGI.

Steven Spielberg made dinosaurs the monsters of everyone's imagination and sparked a worldwide dinosaur craze. The film represented the pinnacle of industrial standards at the time, using animatronics like the 6.1-meter animatronic T-Rex, masterful use of camera angles, and CGI to create a stunning feast for the eyes. The indoor chase sequence at the end is particularly well-handled. The film successfully blends visual spectacles, scientific spirit, and humanistic care.

The dinosaurs in this film look more realistic than any other prehistoric film, or even most movies today that try to pass off crappy CGI has reality. The cinematography is astounding, the script is good and the direction is lively. I haven't read Michael Crichton's book, but regardless this is a hugely enjoyable film.

"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should". Malcolm could have said that about generative AI to produce art, for instance. Jurassic Park's themes are always proving themselves contemporary.

The dinosaur movie par excellence

As a pioneer in the implementation of animatronics, "Jurassic Park" will always remain at the top for being the most wonderful dinosaurs movie ever made.

A gem of technique

Jurassic Park is one of the most successful Steven Spielberg’s movies and a production that considerably raised the dinosaur fever.

A classic is a classic. True Spielberg from beginning to end.
