K AugustJuly 22, 2025Perfect!
This will not be a long review, because I am afraid of the temptation to gush about one of the best films I have seen in the last twenty years. 'In Bruges' pulls you along into the world of two of what must be the most incompetent gangsters ever hired to do a job and do it badly.
The basic plot is this: the younger of the two (Mr. Farrell) has accidentally murdered a child while performing his duties (I won't specify here who was to be killed solo), and he and his partner (Mr. Gleeson) are sent to the Belgian city of Bruges to lay low...and fulfill one final act.
No, I am not going to spoil the fun for you by getting into the plot twist that leads to one of the most bittersweet conclusions ever filmed. I am only going to recommend this comedy so you can see why Martin McDonagh brought them back together again for 'The Banshees of Inisherin,' and why I'd be happy to have them back again for any other pairing of comedy and tragedy that he creates.
9 out of 10?
Almost perfect.

thbzcrt_7February 13, 2025Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes deliver outstanding performances, portraying the moral dilemmas and emotional struggles of their hitman characters with depth and nuance. The climactic leap from the tower is profoundly moving, and the script’s sharp wit and social critique elevate this debut feature into a masterful dark comedy.

SuperMovieFebruary 12, 2025On a first watch, the lack of narration and non-linear storytelling left me bewildered for the first ten minutes. However, the hauntingly beautiful music kept me intrigued. As the story unfolded, its intricate plotting, attention to detail, pervasive black humor, and rich symbolism became increasingly impressive.
