Alice in Wonderland (2010)★ 6.6/10

The film adds sinister twists to a traditional fairy tale. With its stunning soundtrack and lavish visuals, what stands out most is the creation of a fleshed-out character in the Red Queen. Her fragile and twisted heart makes her surprisingly sympathetic, unlike the White Queen, who comes off as hypocritical. The flashbacks to childhood, especially the scene of painting white roses red, are truly captivating.

Visually, this movie deserves full marks, though the plot itself is quite standard, leaving little that stands out in memory. Surprisingly, my favorite character is the Red Queen, who is the most authentic. Her emotions are raw and transparent.

Tim Burton's movies never fail to captivate me. While my memories of the animated version from 13 years ago had faded, it wasn't until that iconic moment when Alice shrinks that my childhood memories came flooding back. The visual effects in that scene are absolutely spot-on, adding a whole new dimension to the experience. And let's talk about Johnny Depp - even in a supporting role, he steals the show with his stellar performance. Despite the heavy makeup, he manages to convey a wide range of emotions, showcasing his incredible talent.

As a kid, this story always struck me as odd. But revisiting it now, I'm blown away by its brilliance. The music is absolutely killer, and the visuals? Stunning doesn't even begin to cover it. But what really steals the show is the Red Queen - her fragile and twisted heart adds such depth to the story. Those scenes from my childhood memories are downright mesmerizing, especially when those white roses suddenly turn red. And let's talk about the White Queen - total hypocrite, am I right? Tim Burton's ironic touch really brings out her true colors. Alice's costumes and the Mad Hatter's getup are just dazzling and stylish.

Tim Burton takes one of the classic animation movies and fills its world with weirdness and paints it a medieval color, two elements that are a perfect fit for Alice and her friends. One of the most unexpected victories in the director’s career.

Alice’s fantasy world takes on a dark new twist in this new version from director Tim Burton, where the dangers are greater and the story is much deeper than in the original version.
