The tears I shed at the end weren’t for their love story, but rather for the tragedy of the protagonist’s inescapable fate. Additionally, many details from the original book weren’t captured, leaving the film’s plot feeling quite thin. Moreover, the movie didn’t delve deeply into other characters, only focusing mainly on the male lead.

I honestly believe Will’s feelings for Lou weren’t love; it was more about the surprise and attachment one feels when encountering a vibrant, lively soul at the end of a desolate life. If Will hadn’t had the accident, he might have noticed Lou’s charm but wouldn’t have been attracted to her despite even with their close interaction.

This movie adaptation fell flat. The original story was pretty straightforward, but the movie didn't even get that right. Besides keeping the ending unique, there wasn't much else to it. And that ending's greatness is more because of the original story, not the movie. The movie doesn't explore why Will made the choice, and Lou's change feels sudden and unconvincing. It was like all her changes were just because of the money at the end. Overall, it was a bit of a letdown.

I think people who don't usually watch a lot of romantic movies might like this one, but it just didn't do it for me. I didn't feel any butterflies or get emotional. It was mostly just the girl's fancy clothes, the guy's good looks, and the beautiful castle scenery that kept me watching. And that plot twist at the end, where he leaves money and a letter, and she starts over, was way too predictable and clichéd.

Even though this movie is labeled as a romance, I see it more as a film with philosophical thinking about the connection between our spirit and body. Like, if a great person gets paralyzed and can't take care of themselves anymore, would they still want to be stuck in their body even if their spirit is still strong? The movie gives an answer to that. Sure, he finds comfort in the girl's optimism, but deep down, he's looking for more than just comfort. He wants someone who really gets him, who understands him.

The movie's first half dragged a bit, but that last scene where they leaned on each other was really heartfelt. Love is complicated and gorgeous, but it ain't gonna solve everything. The movie kinda glossed over Will's decision to leave, probably to make it more palatable for some folks since euthanasia is a heavy topic. But I totally get why Will did it, especially after experiencing all those incredible things but ending up unable to walk again.

Personally, I like the movie better than the book. The movie made a few tweaks that made Will seem less bummed out and his dad seem more wise. And at the end, instead of someone else, Lou says, "Tell me something good," and it gets me every time. Sam Claflin was spot-on like Will, which is exactly how I pictured him. Those changes helped me grasp why Will was so determined to leave. Plus, the bond between Lou and her sister felt even more heartwarming in the movie.
